The Next Step tells the epic story of a man, humbled after experiencing a fall from grace, going from financial tycoon to Fed Ex employee who has to step up to answer the call of a higher power. The novel centers around the protagonist, Fishman, a man, lover, scholar, to some a mensch and, to others a Messiah, who can no longer watch a world spinning out of control from senseless violence, terrorist attacks, false prophets, and corruption.

Robert Koppel's The Next Step is easily the most creative fiction I've read in the last 10 years.I'd put it right up there with Thomas Pynchon or Don Delillo in quality and sophistication of writing, but Koppel is more accessible than either of those writers.
